Class Updates and Reminders

  • We are sorry to tell you that we have to cancel SS 309, Voting Rights in America, because the presenter is recovering from surgery. The class was due to begin on Monday, March 7. We hope to reschedule the class next semester.

 

  • Reminder: The location of the second and final session of SS 302, Caesar’s Might and Madness, has been changed to Woodbridge. The time and date remain the same: 2 PM tomorrow, February 24. Please arrive early to ensure a seat, as empty seats will be given to those on the waitlist five minutes before the class begins.

 

  • Space Available for Temecula Wine Tasting (SE 34). We need to book 10 more spots for this trip to the wineries in Temecula on March 17th (Saint Patrick’s Day).  Encourage your friends to join us with a picnic lunch and experience tastings at three marvelous wineries, in addition to a tour through the Keyways vineyards, and the Wiens cellar.  The day-trip lasts from 8:45-4:30 and costs $74. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Sherri Nussbaum at 949-636-0617 (sherrilynn@cox.net) or Lonnie Horn 949-854-7470 (mail4lonnie@aol.com) by the end of this week (Friday, 2/25 by 4:00).

 

  • All OLLI members are invited to a very special event, in conjunction with AH 101, The Body Responds, a tour of the Beall Center for Art and Technology, on Tuesday, March 8 at 1 PM.  Dean Lewis and UCI Chancellor Michael Drake will unveil a walk of fame star for Claire Trevor, who generously endowed the School of the Arts.  There is a ceremony with luncheon to follow.  If you wish to attend the luncheon there is a cost of $49.  If you simply would like to see the unveiling and hear the speeches by Chancellor Michael Drake and others there is no cost.  The event begins at 11:30. If you wish to attend the luncheon please RSVP to UCI at 949-824-1088 (not the OLLI office) by March 2. And please join us for AH 101 “The Body Responds,” interactive sculptures by Chico MacMurtrie at 1:00 PM, as there is room for more members.   • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI, on Wednesday, March 2: Professor Miles Corwin, a former LA Times reporter, will present On the Police Beat: From Fact to Fiction. A buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM and is $11.50 for UClub members and $13.50 for non-members. For reservations, call 949-824-7960.
