Class Updates and Reminders

  • UCI Global Dance Initiatives (SE 41) has space available at Winifred Smith Hall at 4 PM on Thursday, April 14.  UCI Dance Department Chair Lisa Naugle, Professor/Choreographer Sheron Wray and their students will discuss and demonstrate their recent experiences collaborating with musicians and dancers in both Spain and Ghana. Guests are welcome and there is no fee for this event. To enroll, call facilitators Judy/Paul Sochat (949-715-1530) or Marilyn Goldberg (949-310-1141).

 

  • SC 214, For the Birds and Other Flying Creatures, beginning on Thursday, April 14, at 3:30-5:30 in Woodbridge, has room for additional OLLI members. Week 1: Exceptional avian populations of North and South America.  A discussion of bats in their natural habitats and how they contribute to the conservation of the natural environment. No need to contact facilitators – just come to the class on April 14th.

 

  • There is still space available for members and non-members in SE 37 – Art Alive & Museums at Balboa Park Excursion on April 29th. Join us in viewing the breathtaking display of color, texture, and shape in conjunction with the interpreted work so that we understand the artwork in a new way.  Lunch is on your own, and you are welcome to re-enter the museum to enjoy their exhibits in the afternoon.  Contact Rochelle Ambersound  at 949-552-0573 or jensmamele@aol.com  to reserve your space.  The cost is $76 (the April newsletter incorrectly listed $73).

 

  • SE 40, Overnight Adventure Trip to Little Petroglyph Canyon on May 14, is now open to additional OLLI members and non-OLLI participants. This trip will explore one of the many canyons in the Coso Mountains near Ridgecrest  that contain the largest collection of rock art in North America.  For more details see the class description on page 31 of the Spring Catalog.   • The Spring University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI, will continue next Wednesday, April 13, with UCI Pharmacology Professor Daniele Piomelli discussing Marijuana and the Brain. Buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM, and is $11.50 for U Club members and $13.50 for non-members. For reservations, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu.
