  • Please note the following changes and corrections to the Fall 2011 catalog:


  • Due to budget cuts at UCI’s School of the Arts, Page to Stage: Tinseltown Christmas (SE 38 and SE 39) has been cancelled (they hope to stage it in December of 2012). If you have registered for one of these performances, you will be issued a refund. Please note in your calendars that there will not be a rehearsal on Nov. 12 or performances on Dec. 3 and 4. You may be interested in SE 36, details below, which has been moved to one of Tinseltown’s original dates.


  • The UCI School of the Arts has changed the performance date of In the Red and Brown Water (Director’s Voice III, SE 36) from Nov. 13 to Saturday, Dec. 3, same time. If you registered for this event you will automatically be re-scheduled for the new date. If you cannot attend on Dec. 3, please contact one of the facilitators by Oct. 14, Marilyn Goldberg ( or Erika Faust (, who will authorize a refund. There are plenty of seats available for this performance and the pre-matinee director’s talk. Tickets are $15.25. Call UCI Student Services at 949-824-5414 to register.


  • AH 103, Russia and the Soviet Union at War: There will be no class on October 10.


  • AH 119, Shakespeare and Opera: The time has been changed to 10 AM-Noon. The location remains the same.


  • Volunteer Opportunities

The Arts and Humanities Committee  is looking for a catalog editor to oversee the draft copies of the course descriptions for the Spring 2012 catalog.  Duties include attending committee meetings and checking copy for accuracy.  Courses are now being planned, and the next meeting is at 1 PM on September 15 in the Woodbridge Onken classroom. The committee is also hoping to enlist members interested in developing and/or facilitating A&H classes. The Science and Mathematics Committee is looking for a discussion leader with a background in neurology who is interested in guiding discussion for a class that will have watched a DVD on stress and its relation to the body. In addition, anyone interested in medical topics or in the natural history of Orange County  is urged to join the  committee to help brainstorm ideas for classes.   • The OLLI blog has a new look! Add this site to your Favorites so you can check back easily for the latest OLLI news and events. We welcome your comments.


  • Space is available for you and your guests to see Gustavo Dudamel conducting the LA Philharmonic at Disney Hall in an all Mendelssohn concert. The trip will be from 9:15 AM–6 PM on Sunday, October 9. The bus will leave from Lakeview Senior Center. The cost is $160 per person, which includes a pre-performance lecture, terrace level seating for the matinee, bus, driver’s tip, MOCA admission, and an OLLI contribution. You will have some time to explore downtown LA before the lecture and performance. Lunch is on your own. To register, call UCI Student Services at 949-824-5414 and ask to enroll in SE 41. If you contacted the facilitators to be put on the list for this concert, you now need to contact Student Services and pay for the event. Non-members are welcome.
