KIT (Keep in Touch)

The OLLI at UCI community is sad to announce the death of George Hume, longtime OLLI member and co-chair of the Science Committee. There will be an informal celebration of George’s life at 2:30 PM this Saturday, September 17, in the chapel at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 3500 Pacific View Dr., Corona del Mar. Julie Hume, former OLLI president, wrote this message to OLLI members: Thank you for being our friends and collaborators over the OLLI years that we have enjoyed so much.  It meant a great deal to George.

Class Updates and Reminders

  • Space available in Poetry Without Violence (AH 114):  there are still seats available for Poetry Without Violence tomorrow, September 15, from 10:00 AM – noon in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. Please send attendance request to facilitator Toni Dwyer at radatoni@cox.net or just show up for the class. For more information, see page 12 of your catalog.
  • SE 25, the Overnight Adventure Trip to Little Petroglyph Canyon, has been confirmed for October 22-23. We will be carpooling from the Lakeview Senior Center on Saturday, October 22nd. An orientation session will be scheduled in late September. This trip is now open to non-OLLI members. See page 30 of your catalog for more information. To register for the trip, call 949-824-5414. If you have questions, contact facilitator Lonnie Horn at mail4lonnie@aol.com.
  • If you are registered for Director’s Voice III: In the Red and Brown Water (SE 36), the director’s talk and matinee has been moved from November 13 to December 3 at UCI.  We hope you can attend this important new play (Part 1 of Brother/Sister Trilogy) by Tarell Alvin McCraney, who has been hailed by the NY Times as an “astonishing young dramatist.” You will be automatically re-scheduled for the new date of Saturday, 12/3 (same times as originally planned; matinee will now be in Claire Trevor Theatre; director’s talk in Winifred Smith Hall).   If you are unable to attend on 12/3 and wish to receive a refund for SE 36, please contact by October 14 facilitators Marilyn Goldberg (mpwg26@yahoo.com; 949-310-1141) or Erika Faust (erikaf11@sbcglobal.net; 949-759-6866). We are sorry for the date change (related to budget cuts at UCI) and thank you for your understanding.
