  • Planning session: All OLLI members are invited to participate in an hour of brainstorming to develop social activities such as Mahjong and other cultural games, travel tips, current events discussion groups, and more.   • A UCI graduate student in political science has asked our members to participate in an online survey that examines the causes of political participation. The goal of the survey is to determine factors that encourage or deter people from participating in political activity.  The anonymous survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and has approval from UCI’s Office of Research. If you are interested, please go to to take the survey. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance in this worthwhile project to advance the research on political activity. If you have questions about the survey, the Study Information Sheet is available in the OLLI office.
  • Come to OLLI’s first Saturday morning Travel Talk. BYOB (Bring your own Breakfast) and come listen to OLLI member Lonnie Horn talk about and share photos from her recent trip to Mongolia, at 9:30 AM this Saturday, October 15, in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom.   • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI: Dr. Sam Bederman, chief of Orthopedic Surgery at UCI Medical Center, will discuss Back Problems: Causes, Prevention, and Treatment, on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM and is $13 for OLLI members. For reservations, call 949-824-7960.

  • One of our own OLLI members has an article in the current issue of the LLI Review, the annual journal of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Gary Oberts describes OLLI at UCI’s successful World War II classes in World War II Memories: Time is of the Essence. Copies are available for checkout in the OLLI library, located in the back of the Woodbridge classroom.
  • Update on South Coast Repertory Tickets. Please be advised that there will be no more orders accepted for the January, February and March 2012 tickets to the South Coast Repertory plays.
