Class Updates and Reminders

  • There is room in Shakespeare and Opera, AH 119 (Julia Reinhard Lupton, presenter) for additional members.  This class takes place at the University Club on Tuesday, November 1.  Please note, however, that the time is incorrect in the catalog.  The two-hour class starts at 10 AM (not 11 AM).  Please enroll through facilitator Connie Hauck at (949) 854-8334.
  • Philosophy and the Art of Living – German Philosophers (SS 308) will begin on Wednesday, November 2, at 9:30 AM at the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. The presenter, Dr. Mason, has prepared some material to familiarize yourself with the philosopher who will be discussed in each of the six classes. The material is now posted on the OLLI blog under Science. The class is full so if you are enrolled, we suggest you arrive at least 10 minutes before the starting time. If you have questions, please contact one of the facilitators, listed in your catalog on page 23.
  • There are additional spaces for OLLI members or guests in SE 27 – Children’s Books Illustrations, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 6:30-8 PM.  This is a pre-show of the 20th annual Chemers Gallery show and, as a special anniversary event, will feature the work of the Harry Potter books’ illustrator Mary Grandpre as well as that of Robin Preiss Glasser of Fancy Nancy fame, and favorites Raul Colon, Elisa Klevan, Lou Fancher and Steve Johnson.  See page 31 of the OLLI catalog for additional information.  As space is limited, please contact facilitator Carol Compton at (949) 861-3820 to enroll.
  • There is room in SE 29 – Pacific Standard Time for additional members and guests. The trip will take place on Thursday, November 17.  We will see “Common Ground,” an exhibit of ceramics which pushes the boundaries of clay work as well as “The House That Sam Built,” which features 30 works by renowned woodworker Sam Maloof and 80 works by 30 of his art/fine craft friends.  See details on page 32 of the catalog. Cost is $68.  Please phone (949) 824-5414 to enroll.
  • There are a limited number of spaces in the remaining sessions of World War II Remembered (SS 314) on Nov. 1, 8, and 15. Details are on page 25 of the catalog. If you are interested, contact Al Fuller alisz1@cox.net.

  • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI: UCI Law School Professor Richard Hasen will discuss Campaign Finance and the Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 2. Buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM and is $13 for OLLI members. For reservations, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu.

 

  • Now on the OLLI blog! The class presentations from SC 203, Drugs, Chemists and the Law, have just been posted. The Class Maps section (click the tab on the top of the screen) has been updated to include information about UCI arts locations and parking. We have also added the newsletter of the national OLLI organization under the Link to OLLI sites, and photos in the Photo Gallery. Click on the links to see more.

 

  • The next Special Events meeting will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 8, at Ruby’s restaurant in the Woodbridge Village Center. New members are welcome!
