  • Reminder: the New Member Coffee and Orientation is tomorrow, February 23, at 10 AM in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. Please RSVP by replying to this e-mail or calling the OLLI office at 949-451-1403. All new members welcome. We look forward to meeting our newest OLLI members!
  • Due to an injury, Amy Stinson, the speaker for the Geology of Orange County (SC 215) has been replaced by her colleague at Irvine Valley College, Mark Bordelon. He has taught at IVC for 11 years, including field studies courses in California and western states and was a consulting geologist. In addition, Mark has agreed to lead a field trip for the class on Monday, April 2. We will meet at San Onofre State Beach at 9:00, spend 60-90 minutes at this location and then travel north to Dana Point Harbor and spend another 60-90 minutes there near the Ocean Institute, finishing sometime around 12:30. More details will be available at the class, which meets on March 19 and March 26. There is some space available in the class. Contact the facilitators if you are interested.
  • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI, on Wednesday, February 29: A Conversation with America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasure, Donald McKayle. Buffet lunch begins at 11:30 and is $13 for OLLI members and $15 for non-members, including tax and gratuity. To reserve, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu.   • All OLLI members are welcome to attend Black Performance and the Theater on Tuesday, April 3, from 2-5 PM in the Woodbridge Onken classroom. This course (rescheduled from the Fall) will explore trans-racial and trans-cultural performance and the themes of racial expectation, uplift, the Black position, activism, resistance, revolution, and notions of hope and change.  The presenter is Jaye Austin Williams, a drama instructor at UCI and a playwright, director and actor.
