Class Updates and Reminders

  • Art Lovers Rejoice! A much anticipated retrospective of Richard Diebenkorn’s OCEAN PARK SERIES is on exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art.  OLLI members will have a private docent-led tour on Saturday, April 14, at 11 AM. $12 per person.  Please call Student Services at 949-824-5414 to enroll in SE 63, The Diebenkorn Exhibit. Space is limited. If you have questions, please contact facilitator Joan Levy at hajo@roadrunner.com.
  • There is still room in Morphonano at the Beall Center (AH 110). Come and participate with the interactive exhibit works by media artist Victoria Vesna and nanoscientist James Gimzewski  As you move and think, the works follow your patterns in time and space. Tuesday, March 6, 1:30-3:30 PM  at the Beall Center for Art and Technology on the UCI Campus. See map legend #3 at the back of the OLLI catalog.   • On Thursday, March 8, Dr. Debra Richardson, Professor of Informatics at UCI and Founding Dean of Information and Computer Sciences, will lecture for OLLI  from 10 AM-12 noon in the Onken classroom (SS 308). It will be a lively and enlightening presentation highlighting Women in Information Technology. Men and women are encouraged to sign up; there are spaces available. Contact facilitators Jessie Tromberg (jzt1@cox.net) or Lonnie Horn (mail4lonnie@aol.com).
  • Romanticism in Full Bloom (AH 102), which begins on Monday, March 5, at 10 AM, is completely full. While we normally encourage members who are not enrolled to show up on the first day of class to see if there is room, in this case we do not anticipate any empty seats. If you are enrolled in the class, please arrive early so that you can be checked in and seated 10 minutes before the class begins. If you are enrolled and are not able to attend, please contact one of the facilitators as soon as possible (Molly White at shadowsgiraffe@yahoo.com or Karen MacMiller at kmacmill@kmacmill.com).     
  • Reminder: The final session of SC 209, Water and Oil, will be this Friday, March 2, at 10 AM in the Woodbridge classroom.

  • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI: On Wednesday, March 7, UCI Political Science Professor Kevin Wallsten will talk about Forecasting 2012: What the Economy Can (and Can’t) Tell Us About the Election. Buffet lunch begins at 11:30 and is $13 for OLLI members and $15 for non-members, including tax and gratuity. To reserve, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu.   • All members are invited to a Travel Talk on Saturday, March 10, at 9:30 AM in the Woodbridge classroom featuring members Beverly and Steve Wunderly talking about Australia and New Zealand. Bring your own breakfast if you wish. No need to sign up and guests are welcome.
