Class Updates and Reminders


The following classes and events have openings:

  • Youth and Age in W.B. Yeats’s Love Poetry (AH 117) at 1:30 PM on April 16 in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. UCI Professor Laura O’Connor will present poems and discuss her lecture at the Yeats International Sumer School in Ireland.  Please contact Marian Bretts at if you would like to attend.

  • Shirley Temple and Child Stardom (AH 105) at 2 PM on April 20 in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom will take a very different look behind the scenes of casting children in movies.  UCI Professor Kristen Hatch will present from her extensive research.  Please contact Sally Schwartz at if you would like to attend.
  • Guests are welcome at 15 Minute Musical Concerts (SE 60) on Thursday, May 3 at 10:00 AM in UCI’s Winifred Smith Hall (see map at back of OLLI catalog).  Don’t miss these 4 delightful original musicals performed by UCI student actors (originally presented in NYC during UCI Drama Department’s Satellite Program in Musical Theatre), followed by talkback with director Myrona DeLaney and cast.  Program is free. No need to register with Student Services or with the event Facilitator for SE 60!

  • Just posted to the OLLI Blog are photos of OLLI trips including Trash Tour to Goodwill Industries, the Reagan Library and the Little Petroglyph Canyon trips, and SC 215, Geology of Orange County Hike.   • Attention Bridge Players: A new series of bridge lessons began last week in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. Included is an hour lesson on defense given by Richard Anthony followed by play. Classes are scheduled for Wednesday, April 18, at 2 PM, and Wednesday, May 16, at 2 PM.  Other dates may be added. You do not need a partner.  OLLI members and non-members alike are welcome.   • We need your help! We have an entry-level job for you: become a facilitator for one course in the upcoming Fall 2012 semester, which begins in September and ends in January 2013. Being a facilitator assures you of an additional course choice when enrolling for the next semester! No previous experience is necessary–it’s easy to take attendance. Contact Leah Jordan at for more information.
