  • We are sorry to announce the cancellation of SS 306, Graduate Research, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 9. Several of the students had conflicts with the dates. We hope to reschedule this class in the future.
  • The 30s: The Age of Song and Musicals (AH 104), which begins on Monday, April 30, is completely full. While we normally encourage members who are not enrolled to show up on the first day of class to see if there is room, in this case we do not anticipate any empty seats. If you are enrolled in the class, please arrive early so that you can be checked in and seated 10 minutes before the class begins. If you are enrolled and are not able to attend, please contact one of the facilitators as soon as possible (Molly White at shadowsgiraffe@yahoo.com or Carol Compton at carolcompton1@cox.net).
  • Reminder: The remaining two sessions of SC 213, Computers, on April 30 and May 7, will meet at 10 AM in the Woodbridge classroom (not 1 PM as listed in your catalog).
  • Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI: On Wednesday, May 2, UCI Professor Pete Ditto will give a talk on The Psychology of Political Polarization. Buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM and is $13 for OLLI members and $15 for non-members, including tax and gratuity. To reserve, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu. For the complete Spring Forum schedule, visit our blog at www.olliuci.wordpress.com and click on University Club Forum. Please note: a seat cannot be guaranteed for you unless you RSVP. Many talks have been at or near capacity.

  • Science & Technology in Plain English (SC 211) on May 3, 10, and 17 at 10 AM in Woodbridge, will cover the following topics:
May 3:              A Pill to Live Longer? (Jerry Florman)
    Polymerase Chain Reaction (Steve Wunderly)
The World Response to Fukushima Disaster (Dennis Silverman)
May 10:            The Humanistic Side of the Nobel Prize  (Jerry Florman)
The Changing Level of the Ocean  (Gary Oberts)
May 17:            What’s Happening to Light Bulbs?  (John Bush)
The Health Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation (John Bush)
Queues: Why Are the Lines at Costco So Long? (Paul Gray)

There is plenty of room available in this class. No need to register, just show up!

  • Just posted on the OLLI blog: The class presentation on Geographic Information Systems from the SC 213 April 23 class is now available: http://wp.me/pRi9i-Me.

  • Another OLLI member’s e-mail address has been compromised. If you receive an e-mail from one of your contacts asking for money, promoting a product or investment, or anything else that seems suspicious, do not respond! Contact the person by phone to let them know you received the suspicious e-mail and to check its legitimacy. This seems to be occurring with more frequency, so please be aware. Again, OLLI’s own lists have not been compromised, just individual members.
