Geology of Anza Borrego State park (SC 215). Class presentation available for viewing.

An overview of the geology and physiographic setting of Anza Borrego State Park and surrounding area will be presented in this lecture, which will include an overview of the regional tectonics that led to the development of the region; major faults and recent seismic activity; geologic units and the rich vertebrate and invertebrate paleontology; desert geology, e.g., playas and badlands; the Salton Trough and Salton Sea; and a summary of great geologic sites that are worth visiting in the area.

Presenter: Mark Bordelon

has been an adjunct geology professor at Irvine Valley College for 14 years, including field study courses in California and the western states. He was a consulting geologist for more than 20 years. He has presented very popular OLLI classes on The Geology of Orange County, Geologic Faults, Tectonics, Geoengineering of the Panama Canal, and Geology of Joshua Tree National Park
