Class Updates and Reminders

We are sorry to announce that AH 105, Black Performance and the Theater, scheduled to begin on December 6, has been cancelled because the presenters are no long available.

Reminder: SE 30, The Festival of Lights at Mission Inn, Riverside, is tomorrow, Thursday, December 1. Reminder information and forms were e-mailed last week to those who are registered. Please dress in layers – the weather forecast had a high of 63 and a low of 36 for tomorrow, and you will be outside for much of the evening to enjoy the lights! If you have questions, please contact the facilitators, listed on page 32 of your catalog.

Are you interested in discussing current events? The Social Science Committee will hold a pilot class on current issues from noon to 2 PM on Thursday, December 8, in the Woodbridge Onken Classroom. No need to register, just come if you are interested and bring your lunch if you like.

Coming up at the University Club Forum, co-sponsored by OLLI: Claudia Kawas, MD, UCI School of Medicine, will talk about Successful Aging: Lessons on the 90+ Study on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Buffet lunch begins at 11:15 AM and is $13 for OLLI members. For reservations, call 949-824-7960 or e-mail UClub@uci.edu. This will be the last Forum of the Fall. We will begin the Winter Forum on January 18, 2012. Look for the new schedule in the Spring catalog or on our blog at www.olliuci.wordpress.com.

Those of you who attend the Russia classes might be interested in Russian Duma (Parliament) Elections, Sunday, December 4. If you want to know more and even participate, go to the website of The Moscow Times (www.themoscowtimes.com). When the front page appears look to the right for “Duma Vote 2011: You Choose.” Click on that and up will come short descriptions of all the parties and what the ratings indicate. Then If you wish, you can click on “your vote.” Have fun and vote wisely in the “Managed Democracy”!
